Dear Nevada Drivers,

You may recall last year during the 2017 Legislative Session that a Senate bill passed in favor of increasing our states required minimum auto liability limits. For many decades past our required limits were firmly set at 15/30/10. As of July 1st, 2018, those limits will officially increase to 25/50/20.

I read today that one in three Nevada drivers will feel the impact of this change. More bluntly approximately 600,000 Nevada drivers will feel the impact of this change. That’s a whole bunch of folks! So many, that I felt a gentle reminder with a cute dog picture was in order. Because cute dog pictures sometimes ease the pain of hard to swallow news.

So,what happens now?

If you carry higher limits already this change won’t make a difference to you. Although, I’m sure you notice your premium increases at renewal for many other reasons each year. Those currently insured at the former minimum limits will transition to the new limits. Yes, this does mean that your annual premium amount for liability and uninsured/under-insured motorists will see an increase.

The Nevada Division of Insurance has posted information on their website addressing the Higher Minimum Liability Requirements followed by FAQs that answer many of the questions you may have.

Call your broker or insurance carrier for specific questions on how this will affect your premium. If WE are your broker then CALL US! If we’re not your broker, but you want to see what other options are available to you then also CALL US!

Lastly, remember that I’m just the messenger delivering a gentle reminder WITH a cute dog picture!
