The president of Comstock Insurance Agency, better known as J.R., is a third generation Reno native. But that’s just the beginning of his story. J.R. is also a native of Comstock, as his father John founded the agency in 1957.
J.R. knew from an early age that the Comstock door would always be open to welcome him in, yet he wanted to blaze his own trail. Good thing because the tough summer jobs he had as a farm laborer and warehouse worker instilled in him the importance of hard work and perseverance.
After graduating from Wooster High School, J.R. attended the University of Nevada, Reno, wisely turning his attention to the wide world of business. Thanks to a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in finance and insurance, J.R. was truly ready to put his experience and education to work for the family business. He joined Comstock in 1978 prior to graduating college.
Today, J.R. spends his working hours concentrating on Commercial Property/Casualty sales, client service and agency management. Through his leadership, the agency continues to grow, and both clients and employees continue to stay with Comstock.
J.R. and his wife Kim have one son. He and his wife are both physicians at Stanford Medical Center and have contributed a darling grandson to the Sweatt family. J.R. enjoys traveling, hiking and scuba diving, but for the past 16 years he has also been lead supporter for Kim’s passion – training and showing miniature horses on the national level. J.R. is an avid fan of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack and loyal supporter of the Pack Education Fund. When it comes to professional sports, you’ll find him rooting for all the Bay Area teams.
